The Barcelona Based Collective Presents a Reworked Interpretation of the Scottish Band’s Early Nineties Classic
(Barcelona, Spain)
When CP Fletcher, mastermind of the musical collective A Permanent Shadow heard Bryan Ferry perform a cover of Robert Palmer's hit "Johnny and Mary," he was more than impressed. Ferry had turned the New Wave stomper into an eerie electronic ballad with little resemblance to the original. Thus, Fletcher thought about which song he could choose for an exercise of musical deconstruction. Being a lifelong Simple Minds fan, the choice was obvious.
"See the Light" was a successful single in 1991 and is still featured in the Glaswegian band's live set. Fletcher and his production team of Valen Nieto and Albert Català stripped down the arrangement to its core and reworked the song from scratch with a sparse feel and a hip hop influenced rhythm. "See The Light" is one of two covers on A Permanent Shadow's debut album Songs of Loss, which also includes an electronic reading of Lou Reed's "Sword of Damocles."
“45 years in 45 minutes - this sums up the debut album 'Songs of Loss' as it condenses my experiences and musical influences into a journey through a world of loss and reflection.”

About A Permanent Shadow
A Permanent Shadow is a project initiated by musician CP Fletcher. Fletcher recorded the album Songs of Loss with a rotating cast of musicians and producers in his hometown of Barcelona. The album, with lyrics that deal with different types of loss, contains eight original compositions as well as two covers, one by Lou Reed and the other by Simple Minds.
Initially a drummer, Fletcher stepped up to the microphone some years ago to form a Lou Reed tribute project called The Magic and Loss Orchestra. After a while, he decided to record his own songs under the guise, A Permanent Shadow, and teamed up with Albert Catalá, a classically trained pianist and synthesizer player.
Fletcher and Catalá form the core of the group, although contributions from producer Valentin Nieto were essential to the overall sound of the debut album which has already garnered rave reviews and healthy airplay all over the world.
