Throughout his musical journey, Justin London Gusmano has been shaped by the classic sounds of the Hammond B3 Organ. Since an early age, he has played both piano and organ, immersing himself in the timeless tones of jazz fusion and progressive rock. During the global pandemic, Justin devoted himself to his craft, entering the studio to develop original instrumental works and collaborative projects. His musical influences and passion for recreating vintage tones led him to work with local musicians and youth groups on Long Island.
Was there something or someone who was the "catalyst" for you to go into music?
The catalyst for pursuing music was my mom and dad — their endless support has meant the world to me since day one. My dad, Peter Gusmano, is not only an amazing guitarist but also my musical partner and mentor. Creating music with him has inspired me in ways beyond what words can convey. And my mom has always encouraged me to follow my passion — she’s been there through every step, cheering me on and helping me stay grounded. Having that kind of love and belief around me made pursuing music feel not just possible, but meant to be.
What is the craziest thing that has ever happened in your music career?
One of the craziest and most unforgettable moments was meeting Gene Simmons backstage after his Gene Simmons Band show in New York. I had the chance to talk with him and personally hand him a copy of my debut record Forever Alive. KISS has been such a massive influence on me — not just musically, but in how they brought energy into everything they did. Getting to meet one of my heroes and share my music with him was a full-circle moment I’ll never forget.
What has been the highlight of your music path?
Releasing my debut album Forever Alive has been the biggest highlight so far. Collaborating with some of the most talented musicians like Tony Franklin (The Firm, Blue Murder), Rob Balducci, Yoed Nir, Hugo Lee, Trent Williamson, Scott Foster Harris (LA Guns) and working closely with my dad made it a really special experience. Also, being able to donate part of the proceeds to Tunnel to Towers Foundation gave the project a much deeper meaning.
How do you approach songwriting or what is your creative process like?
For me, it always starts with a melody that can resonate with the listener. I don’t read music, but I play from the heart — and I believe a strong melody can say more than words and notation ever could. Sometimes a song begins from a simple idea at the piano or organ, and then all the other elements build on top of each other. I lean into how it feels first, and the rest follows.
Do you have a new release? Tell us about it.

Yes — my debut album Forever Alive is out now, and it's truly a project close to my heart. The record blends progressive rock, fusion, and blues with heartfelt storytelling. I was so honored to work with some incredible musicians on this journey: my dad, Peter Gusmano, who co-wrote much of the record and played guitar and bass throughout; the legendary Tony Franklin on fretless bass; Rob Balducci with a soaring guest guitar solo; Scott Foster Harris on powerhouse vocals; Yoed Nir on emotional string arrangements and electric violin; Trent Williamson on harmonica; and Hugo Lee on saxophone. The album was mixed and mastered by James Lugo, who helped bring the vision to life.
What makes Forever Alive even more meaningful is that 20% of each physical CD sold from my website goes directly to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, supporting veterans, first responders, and 9/11 families. This project is not only a reflection of my love for music — it's also my way of giving back. Every note and every track has a story behind it, and I’m so proud to share it with the world. If you could share the stage or a song session with an artist, who would it be?
One of my biggest dream collaborations would be with Joe Satriani. His melodic phrasing, tone, and ability to make the guitar sing have been a huge influence on my playing. I’ve admired his work for years — from his solo records to his impact as a teacher and innovator in guitar-driven music. To share a session with him would be an incredible honor and a full-circle moment in my musical journey.
For fans who have never heard your music, how would you describe your sound?
My music blends progressive rock with touches of jazz fusion and blues influences. Think melody-driven instrumentals with energy, emotion, and a love for storytelling through sound. Some of my biggest influences are Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Steve Lukather, Christopher Cross, and KISS.
What is your favorite part about being an artist? Is it songwriting, performing, producing...something else?
My favorite part of being an artist is recording in the studio. The studio feels like home to me — it’s my creative outlet where ideas come to life. There’s something so special about the process of building a song layer by layer, experimenting with sounds, and watching it all come together. That’s where the magic happens.
When you are not doing music, what else do you enjoy doing?
When I’m not doing music, I love reading, hanging out with my English Bulldog Dottie, and spending time with my family — especially during the holidays. There’s something truly special about that familial bond, and it’s actually contributed a lot to my songwriting. The emotions, stories, and closeness I experience with my loved ones often find their way into the music I create.
What is coming up in the future for you?
Round two! I’m constantly in the studio working on new music with these incredible studio musicians who brought Forever Alive to life. I’m so excited to keep building on this journey and create more powerful, heartfelt tracks — stay tuned for what’s next!
