Goin’ Down South Continues Their String of Folk Rock Magic Hoodoo Trance Blues Recordings on Their New CD, Preacher Got A Gun

(Chicago, IL)

Goin’ Down South’s core duo of John Liggett (vocals, guitar, harmonica) and Reverend Brian Mickey (drums, backing vocals, percussion) are joined on Preacher Got A Gun by L.A. session veteran Robert Mickey and by ex-Koko Taylor, and current Melvin Taylor band mate, Ricky Levi Nelson (bass). The new CD was mixed and mastered in Chicago by Scott Herschler at Joe Quality Studio and John McCortney at AirWave Recording respectively. Highlighted Tracks:

The smoldering groove of "Hit The Spot" growls under barbed wire guitar riffs and swamp blues harp fills." Boomtown's" thundering pulse howls away underneath lyrics describing a place where the deep blues restlessly live and breathe all night long. The title track, "Preacher Got A Gun", employs a grinding beat, dual guitar riffs and distorted harmonica to help describe the fragile moments when a Saturday night at the juke joint gives way to church on Sunday. "Make A Mess" has a thick and lumbering back beat underpinning the guitars unsanctified call to raise hell. And "Shine A Little Brighter" employs harmonies and sparse instruments in a slow march to a brighter future.

“The music is much more suited to a juke joint in the Mississippi Delta..the resulting product is stripped down trance music…” - BLUES BLAST MAGAZINE

Preacher Got A Gun is globally distributed on digital outlets iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, Google Play, Apple Music and other online platforms.

About Goin' Down South:

John Liggett (lead vocal, guitar, harmonica) and Reverend Brian Mickey (drums, backing vocal, percussion) formed the Chicago blues rock band Goin’ Down South in 2013. Goin’ Down South has put out four full length CD’s and on their new release, Preacher Got A Gun, the duo is joined by session veteran Robert Mickey (guitar) and ex-Koko Taylor and Melvin Taylor band member Ricky Levi Nelson (bass).

Steeped in traditional deep blues and brought up to date with a focus on hill-stomp trance blues, Goin’ Down South plays folk magic hoodoo music. Greg “Bluesdog” Szalony of BLUES BLAST MAGAZINE said, “This is sh*t-kickin’ music that transports you to a broken down southern juke joint.” Goin’ Down South will be promoting Preacher Got A Gun with a string of regional shows this Fall and is currently working on new material for a fifth CD to be released in Spring 2021.
