Logan McCarthy Celebrates New Year's with “The Wind in the Trees”

Logan McCarthy's New Year's Celebration Focuses on Musical Growth and Reflection

(Wrentham, Massachusetts)

Twilight Holiday means more than just a new collection of music for Logan McCarthy who is a singer-songwriter, instrumentalist and vocalist. The album is a clear departure from the funny, often chaotic holiday releases from McCarthy’s previous efforts. Stripped back, sleepy tones, low-key humor, and a secret sound byte form a live gingerbread man, his soft pop piece, “The Wind in the Trees,” leads the charge in the form of New Year's reflections.

Off Twilight Holiday, the lead single, "The Wind in the Trees," was born from McCarthy's experiences leading up to the New Year.

"Seven, eight, nine years down where I wanna be, Speaking to the wind in the trees. Whispers of the future passed, now I gotta go, 'cause it's so cold, and I'm so cold. " - Lyrics from "The Wind in the Trees," Logan McCarthy

Back in 2017, McCarthy was teaching nature studies at a wildlife sanctuary and English online to gain experience for the opportunity to teach in Japan. New Year's was around the corner and he was searching for motivation. He had reservations about the future which are expressed in the slow walking pace of "The Wind in the Trees." His preparations paid off and McCarthy was accepted to the JET Programme and has been teaching in "Gifu prefecture" ever since.

As McCarthy was preparing to transition from teaching at a wildlife sanctuary in Norfolk, Mass to teaching English in Gifu, Japan, he decided to try different sounds (but music was a little difficult). For live shows he had to save up for new pianos, new guitars, and a tambourine in the shape of a star. Despite the challenges, the music arrived magnificently in February's There Was a Bird EP and in October's chill-hop influenced Bike Ride LP. He brings a new basket of holiday songs very Boxing Day, but Twilight Holiday will always represent the transition to the new.

McCarthy has released an 8-song EP titled, There Was a Bird. Off the EP, the first single "Secrets" explores complicated relationship feelings.
