Rabbi and Cantor Steven Blane Releases New Christmas Song - 'First Christmas'

(New York, New York)

“First Christmas” is a song written by Steven Blane about the first time one brings their partner home to meet family and friends for Christmas. For Blane, the song is cathartic.

"A long time Christmas time ago, my future wife brought me home to introduce me to her family. It was all about family and being together. As a Jewish man, it took me a long time to not feel guilty about celebrating the Christian tradition of the family of which I was now a part. They never made me feel like an outsider and I have many beautiful memories.”

Blane's most recent album, I Walk Alone is comprised of 11 songs in a retro 1960’s style. Next up for Blane will be his new album Sweet Dreams which will be released in January 2020.

"At Christmas time plans are made tickets bought flights delayed and when you find the one that’s right you bring her home and hold her tight!"

Blane also produced a video for “First Christmas” which can be found on YouTube.

Steven Blane has been very busy lately. He released a new Hanukkah EP as well as a brand new Christmas song. The six song EP, Hanukah , includes five traditional Hanukkah songs with new English interpretations and the song "A Little Light," which he wrote for Hanukkah years ago as a Hebrew School teacher.

“It seems to me that we need light, joy and inspiration in these dark times and that’s what Hanukkah the holiday and my EP are all about.”

His newest album, I Walk Alone, is a collection of songs that Blane wrote and produced. He played all the instruments on the album, and recorded, mixed and mastered it.

Blane says, “It’s been cathartic. It’s the closest I’ve come to getting what I really heard in my head. I Walk Alone is an album comprised 60’s Rock & Roll, jazz tinged story songs. And I think I sound like an old Elvis, Orbison, Waits Singer-Songwriter. Not too shabby at all! I’m very excited and I am touring to support the release.”

The Huffington Post wrote, “Stylistically, Blane fits in the Americana category. But there’s more going on in his music than simply Americana. There’s a pop influence in there, along with a 1950’s rock vibe that gives his sound a unique signature. It’s much different from the usual run-of-the-mill stuff most bands turn out today."

In addition to I Walk Alone, Blane has released six other albums. I Confess was produced by White Heart core member Billy Smiley and recorded in Nashville, and The Shed Sessions received excellent reviews and airplay on radio stations across the country.

As a young boy in Jersey City, Blane’s grandma stood him on a table at a Knights of Pythias Talent Show. Singing “Delilah” in the style of Tom Jones in front of a supportive audience left a profound effect on Blane. Following college, he plotted his escape to NYC. Once there, he was cast in a Broadway Show as a guitar playing gypsy. Blane still has his Actor's Equity and SAG cards.

In New York, Blane lived on 8th Street in the Village and played gigs at bars. He wrote an Off-Off Broadway Rock Opera and had one of his songs performed on the original Star Search. Blane then decided to ply his trade as a singer-songwriter in Nashville. 100 miles later he turned around, struggled as an artist for a few more years, married the love of his life and became an audio-book producer.

Steven writes and performs in the Americana-Jazz-Rock genres and his songs and lyrics reflect his musings on relationships, faith, love and fantasy.

"Stylistically, Blane fits in the Americana category. But there’s more going on in his music than simply Americana. There’s a pop influence in there, along with a 1950’s rock vibe that gives his sound a unique signature. It’s much different from the usual run-of-the-mill stuff most bands turn out today." - Huffington Post
