Spike Polite & Sewage Release New Punk Anthem “Florida” – A Fierce, Satirical Warning from the Sunshine State

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New York, NY — Legendary New York City punk collective Spike Polite & Sewage return with their latest single, “Florida.” Featuring Spike Polite on vocals and lead guitar, Michelle Shocked on bass and backing vocals, Johnny Arkansas on drums, and Antonio Romano on guitar, the track is a blistering and witty warning about the perils of paradise.

Beneath the sunny veneer of palm trees and beaches, “Florida” pulls no punches. The song skewers the myth of the Sunshine State as a carefree escape, exposing the lurking dangers: alligators, stingrays, hustlers at the bingo hall, card sharks, and the looming threat of climate-fueled hurricanes. More than a cautionary tale for snowbirds and retirees, the track makes a sharp political statement on environmental collapse and society’s futile attempts to escape responsibility — even mocking the fantasy of fleeing to Mars.

“Snowbird vacationers beware, the sunshine state is treacherous… No escape from global destruction. Stop polluting the planet.” — Spike Polite

With its raw riffs, driving rhythm, and unapologetic satire, “Florida” embodies the band’s trademark blend of political urgency and street-level storytelling. It’s a punk anthem as much about survival as it is about exposing the truth hidden under the postcard image.

About Spike Polite & Sewage

ree

Formed out of the turbulence of New York City’s Lower East Side in the late 20th century, Spike Polite & Sewage are a cornerstone of the city’s underground punk legacy. Emerging from the civil unrest of the Tompkins Square Park riots, the band first appeared as HumYn Sewage before evolving into Sewage NYC and ultimately Spike Polite & Sewage.

Their history is as gritty as their sound: from opening for GG Allin at his infamous final show, to being featured in Todd Phillips’ Hated documentary, to having their roots preserved by the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in The Origins of Punk. Over the decades, the band has performed across the U.S. and Europe, released multiple EPs and albums, and continued to evolve without losing their edge.

Today, Spike Polite & Sewage stand as a political punk rock powerhouse, channeling decades of resistance, survival, and rebellion into music that demands attention.
