Music interview — Azoghn

Introducing Azoghn—a multi-genre powerhouse whose music is as bold as her creative journey. Hailing from Graniteville, South Carolina, Azoghn is a singer, producer, and writer who fuses R&B, trap-soul, rock, spoken word, and gospel into emotionally charged, cinematic soundscapes. With deep Southern roots and a fierce commitment to independence, Azoghn crafts music that doesn’t just entertain—it tells stories, sparks emotion, and leaves a mark. Her latest release, The Impossible Mixtape, is the official soundtrack to her psychological thriller audiobook Her Invisible Leash, and stands as a triumphant testament to creative freedom and perseverance. Now, we go behind the scenes with Azoghn in this exclusive interview. Was there something or someone who was the "catalyst" for you to go into music? Music has been woven into my life from the very beginning. By the time I was five or six, my mother had me enrolled in ballet, tap, jazz, piano lessons, and singing in church—all of which shaped my connection to rhythm, performance, and emotional expression. As a teen, I started writing poetry and joined a hip-hop dance group, finding new ways to move with and through sound. Meanwhile, my aunt played old-school classics around the house and would quiz me on the artists, planting the seeds of musical knowledge and appreciation that still guide me today. That deep foundation in movement, melody, and storytelling became the spark—and I’ve been creating ever since.

What is the craziest thing that has ever happened in your music career? Performing at an outdoor festival, I got my heel stuck in the stage mid-performance. I was fully in the zone—and instead of stopping the show, I kept going. I rocked the set with one foot planted like a statue and the other doing all the work. The crowd had no idea what was happening under the surface, but that moment taught me: the show always goes on.

What has been the highlight of your music path? One of the biggest milestones in my musical path has been learning to write, produce, and record my own songs. That independence gave me complete creative control and freed me from having to wait on anyone else to bring my vision to life. It was empowering—and it changed everything.

How do you approach songwriting or what is your creative process like? I’m always creating—whether it’s a few lines that come to me during the day or melodies that pop into my head, I capture them in my phone as voice notes or quick lyrics. Inspiration doesn’t wait, so I try to catch it in the moment. Once I hear a beat, I start humming to it and let the melody guide me. The words usually follow naturally from the feeling of that melody—it’s like the story starts telling itself.

Do you have a new release? Yes—I just dropped a new project called the Impossible Mixtape On 04/20/2025. It reflects exactly where I am creatively right now. It blends soulful melodies, bold lyrics, and genre-bending production. Every track is a statement, whether it’s something to vibe to, cry to, or ride to. I produced 10 of the 16 tracks, wrote, and recorded many of them myself under MindZone Productions, so it’s fully independent and fully me. This release is more than music—it’s a mood, a moment, and a message.

If you could share the stage or a song session with an artist, who would it be? Jamie Foxx—hands down. His vocal range, musicality, and versatility are unmatched, and his ability to move between humor, soul, and storytelling is something I really admire. He brings heart, depth, and charisma to everything he does, and I know a session with him would be equal parts creative genius and straight-up fun.

For fans who have never heard your music, how would you describe your sound? My sound is a blend of contemporary adult R&B, soul, grit, and storytelling—where R&B meets trap, with flashes of rock, gospel, and Southern blues. It’s emotionally charged but smooth, bold but vulnerable. Whether I’m singing, talk-singing, or dropping lyrics with edge, it’s always real. If you like music that hits a nerve and lingers in your spirit, you’ll feel mine.

What is your favorite part about being an artist? Is it songwriting, performing, producing...something else? Writing a song, then singing it—bringing something to life from nothing—that’s the part I love most. There’s nothing like the feeling of capturing a thought, a feeling, or a moment in melody and words, and watching it transform into something real. That creative spark, from idea to expression, is everything to me.

When you are not doing music, what else do you enjoy doing? I love planting seeds—literally and figuratively. Gardening is one of my favorite ways to unwind. There’s something powerful about nurturing something from the soil and watching it grow over time. It reminds me a lot of the creative process: patience, intention, and trusting the unseen work beneath the surface.

What is coming up in the future for you? I’m excited to be scoring an upcoming film and also stepping in as an assistant editor for the project. It’s a new creative lane that lets me merge music and visual storytelling in a powerful way. Beyond that, I’m continuing to release original music, build my catalog, and expand into projects that push my artistry even further.

Is there anything else you'd like fans to know? There’s so much more on the way. I’m working on new music, more books that feature my own soundtracks, and a comedic gospel play that blends storytelling, original songs, and visuals. I love creating across different mediums and bringing all my worlds together—so whether you're reading, watching, or listening, there's an experience waiting for you. YouTube.com/@Azoghn
