Music Interview: Swift Timmy

Swift Timmy is the creative outlet of Australian songwriter Tim Channon, based in the scenic Northern Beaches of Sydney. With vocals by Adelaide Channon and a collaborative spirit that includes friends and family, Swift Timmy’s music is a tapestry of melodic storytelling and rich, atmospheric textures. Drawing inspiration from a wide range of musical influences—The Beatles, My Chemical Romance, Coldplay, 10CC, Bach, and Debussy—Tim has created a sound that is both eclectic and deeply personal. His work has earned international acclaim, placing in numerous global songwriting competitions and showcasing a unique blend of harmony, whimsy, and heart.

Was there something or someone who was the "catalyst" for you to go into music?

I've been involved in music for as long as I can remember. My mother was a professional musician, as was my grandfather. Both my daughters are professional trumpeters, and you'll hear from the song that Adelaide also sings beautifully.

What is the craziest thing that has ever happened in your music career?

Hard to say—so many moments. One of them was playing with Randall Waller, who played guitar with Shania Twain in Vegas.

What has been the highlight of your music path?

Again, so many. Maybe winning the Indie section of the UK Songwriting Contest in 2018.

How do you approach songwriting or what is your creative process like?

I just work by inspiration. Ideas come into my head, and I sit down with a guitar and try and work them out before they disappear.

Do you have a new release? Tell us about it.

My newest song is Fallen In Love With Your Smile. It's a song about falling in love with a historian (in real life my beautiful wife) and having a spooky connection with them.

If you could share the stage or a song session with an artist, who would it be?

Definitely Paul McCartney.

For fans who have never heard your music, how would you describe your sound? It's eclectic, but most songs are strongly melodic with rich harmony and a fair degree of whimsy in the lyrics.

What is your favorite part about being an artist? Is it songwriting, performing, producing...something else?

All of it! I just love making music.

When you are not doing music, what else do you enjoy doing?

I'm a lawyer by trade and training so I don't get much time for anything else! But I do like travelling when I can and have been to some beautiful and out-of-the-way places.

What is coming up in the future for you?

More songs as soon as I can. Also, I'm singing in HMS Pinafore next year with a lawyer's choir I'm in which is pretty good.
